FAMILY MINISTRIES

"Delightful February Friends!!

February brings one of my favorite Holidays….Valentine’s Day and the beginning of the Lenten Season, not so much my favorite. Perhaps this is because of my Catholic upbringing (now what will I give up this year?) or perhaps because it feels like such a heavy time, as if winters in northern Missouri aren’t heavy enough! I already know that I am saved by GRACE, do I really need to make that long and arduous journey again from the desert to the cross once again? Really? How come we can’t just realize we are EASTER PEOPLE NOW?

Yes, I see the value in REMEMBERING once again that long journey Jesus Christ embarked upon just for you and me. Yes, I see that REMEMBERING all the gifts and miracles along the way are valuable to ponder once more and reflect upon daily. Okay, I’m ready for the Lenten Journey once again! Thanks for assisting me in moving from resistance to acceptance. Let’s go!!

February brings the pre-Spring gardening enthusiasts opportunity to plant seeds indoors. What will you be planting this year? Are you checking all the beautiful gardening catalogs and pondering your choices? Of course, it is easier to buy them already started! Starting plants from seed can be quite a challenge. Babies are always needy! Let me know what you are beginning for your gardens this month.

February also brings the DINNERS FOR SIX groups to reform for 2012. Let go of the past! While some of you haven’t finished up previous commitments, just let all that go! Just like in our walk of GRACE, we can “begin again” and plan a fresh start!

The goal for the DINNERS FOR SIX is to share food in each other’s homes and get to know each other on a deeper level. If you are not interested in hosting a dinner in your home, then please allow others to fill the spaces. We all need to be ready to “serve” as well as “be served.” This is a fabulous time to learn about your family of faith and hear stories you will cherish for a lifetime. Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming sign-up sheet.

May you be well and happy. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you peace. Shalom, Louise Ann

Let the Children Come
Sunday School
9:30 -10:20 am
First Christian Church

“Let the Children Come” Sunday School uses a sensorimotor style of storytelling as a primary means for encountering God, so God is experienced, not just learned about. Engaging their imaginations, children respond to Biblical stories through continued working with the story figures and art materials. Because they do this through age-appropriate working centers, this class can meet the needs of children ages 3 – 8.

The sacred structure of this time entails love, security, appropriate freedom, continuity, order and meaning which guides young children to find the quiet place within where they meet God in wonder. This will be held in the classroom next to the “Builders.” Please contact the teacher, Louise Ann, to enroll your child or serve as an adult volunteer, 734-4020.
